Training Strategy 2006-2009
Our Training Strategy document is produced in line with key national guidance, including Working Together to Safeguard Children 2006.
It provides a pathway for all those working with children and/or their families. It links training with role, responsibility, performance expectation and level of experience.
Training is delivered on a three-stage approach and is linked to increasing levels of specialism, complexity of task and level of contact with children and their families.
Training Group Categories: which one best describes you?
Group A
Those in regular contact with children and young people and adults who are parents and/or carers. These will be people who are in a position to identify concerns about maltreatment and who, as a minimum, need introductory training on how to identify and pass on concerns and on the importance of agencies working together to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
- A1 - staff who may see particular children and/or their parents and carers, but have no on-going relationship with.
- A2 – staff who have an on-going level of contact with children and/or their parents and carers.
Group B
Those who work regularly with children and young people and with adults who are parents and/or carers, and who may need to contribute to assessments of children in need. This group should have a higher minimum level of expertise: a fuller understanding of how to work together to identify and assess concerns, to plan, undertake and review interventions.
Group C
Those with a particular responsibility for safeguarding children. Those in this group need to have a thorough understanding of working together to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, including in complex and/or serious cases.
