Child Protection On-Line Learning

The SSCB Training and Development Service has been involved in developing an e-learning module and on-line assessment to provide a flexible delivery route for Basic Awareness of Child Protection and Safeguarding Children. The training is hosted by Virtual College, one of the UK’s leading e-learning sites and was originated by Bradford Safeguarding Children Board.
 
The Awareness of Child Abuse & Neglect - Short Foundation course can be taken to demonstrate evidence of undertaking the Short Introduction level of the SSCB Training Strategy and is suitable for staff who may see particular children and/or their parents and carers, but have no on-going relationship with them. 
Estimated total time required to complete is 60 –90 minutes. The course does not have to be completed in one session.
 
The Awareness of Child Abuse & Neglect - Core Introduction course can be taken to demonstrate evidence undertaking one element of the Introduction Level of the SSCB Training Strategy and is suitable for those who work regularly with children and young people and with adults who are parents and/or carers, and who may need to contribute to assessments of children in need.
Estimated total time required to complete is 60 –120 minutes. The course does not have to be completed in one session
 
It is not necessary to undertake the Short Foundation course before the Core Introduction.
 
The structure of the courses include:
 
  • Understanding the various types of abuse or harm to a child
  • Identifying signs of abuse and what to look for
  • Knowing how to ask questions if you suspect a child is being abused
  • Knowing what steps you can take if you suspect abuse or harm
  • Understanding what happens after a referral to Social Care is made
  • Knowing what to do if a child or adult discloses abuse
  • Understanding the importance of keeping records
  • What to do if you suspect abuse or deliberate harm to a child
 
The learning package has interactive learning screens, learner challenges, tracking, online assessment and will issue a certificate once the learner attains the required score on the challenges.
